Scientists from Northwestern University (USA) who last year participated in a new sensational international study on communicating with dreamers in real time, launched a new experiment on March 31 on inducing lucid dreams using a smartwatch (Fitbit, Ionic, Versa, or Sense) and an Android device (smartphone or tablet). Everyone can participate by downloading the Lucid Experiment app on Google Play.

As the authors write in the description of the application, the purpose of the study is to find out whether it is possible to induce lucid dreams with the help of sounds that remind you that you are dreaming. The app uses audio signals to teach reality testing techniques.

The sequence of actions after installing the application is as follows:

– You fill out an online questionnaire about your experience and habits related to sleep
– Activate the app every night before going to bed, set the volume level, and perform a brief training protocol (less than 30 minutes)
– Leave the app on at night, putting the phone next to you as you sleep

After that, the phone will play cue sounds at certain points during the night, which should remind participants that they are asleep and promote lucidity. As the researchers add, the main risk is that participants may experience possible sleep disturbances during the week of the study. The main advantage is the potential progress we can make in our understanding of how the brain works.

Will you take part in the experiment?
