After the tragedy that occurred in the fall of 2021 on the set of the film Rust, when Alec Baldwin was mistakenly given a loaded gun and accidentally shot the cinematographer, the actor did not announce new projects, although he starred in several films. Now the silence has been broken, and the name of the future work is False Awakening.

According to Deadline magazine, this will be a film about a man whose waking nightmares begin to merge with his daily life. Baldwin will play the main role—a psychologist who compels the patient to use higher powers to confront his past and prevent himself from falling into violent psychosis.

Executive producer James Norrie added that false awakening is a real, albeit little-known condition and that writer-director Benjamin Tomson “has crafted a terrifyingly believable script” that “has all the hallmarks of a classic in the making.”

As we know, false awakening is one of the phase states, among which we also include lucid dreams, out–of-body experiences, etc. In this instance however, it will be used as a key element in a psychological thriller plot. The filmmakers cite as influences such classic works as The Exorcist and Rosemary’s Baby. Filming is scheduled to begin this summer in the U.S.
