An international group of medical scientists led by Mahmoud Tarek Hefnawy has published an open letter in a scientific journal calling for researchers to address the issue of sleep paralysis. The authors consider it the most common sleep disorder affecting people of all ages, especially young people, students, and patients with schizophrenia and panic attacks.

Sleep paralysis is one of the phase states, and people can enter lucid dreams from this state. However, those who suffer from such episodes experience fear. Many still associate this issue with the supernatural. There are no universally recognized treatment methods, but doctors recommend avoiding stress and normalizing sleep as prevention measures.

The authors of the letter added that sleep paralysis may result from orexin deficiency (which is produced by the hypothalamus to regulate the sleep-wake cycle). Therefore, its intake may prevent sleep paralysis. However, there is insufficient data on the effectiveness of this method.

Have you ever tried to get rid of sleep paralysis?

The letter was published in February 2024 in Sleep and Breathing.

Drugs and plants may have side effects and should only be used in consultation with a doctor. This article does not call for independent experiments.
