Flying is one of the most popular activities in lucid dreams. Scientists from various countries have created a special bed to make flying in dreams easier. The authors conducted an experiment on the border of art and science—as part of an exhibition in a museum, they prepared a room where visitors could sleep. The bed moved, creating the necessary sensations. In addition, light for visual stimuli and audio recordings with prompts to trigger a flight scenario were employed. The project manager is Adam Haar Horowitz, and the authors include Michelle Carr, a regular researcher of lucid dreams.
During the exhibition, 353 people slept in the room, but only 24 shared their impressions. Of these, 16 experienced flight in a dream. The scientists consider this an excellent result, given that only 1% of adults fly in dreams under normal conditions. By the way, the experiment had a long-term effect—some participants reported flights in dreams even a month later.
The authors emphasize the importance of a multisensory approach that impacts vision, hearing, and sensations. It is also necessary to connect intention and mindset. For example, some lucid dreamers note that their flying skills in lucid dreams improve after carefully observing birds, indicating that preliminary preparation in waking life is a requirement.
