In the film Passion of Mind, Demi Moore’s character flits between two realities—much like an experienced lucid dreamer moving between a lucid dream and wakefulness. Two women, Marie and Marty, exist in parallel, and while they are both engaged in literature, they are otherwise complete opposites. One is a mother immersed in routine; the other is a successful businesswoman, luxuriating in wealth. Both are in love, but here, too, there’s contrast: one finds solace in a sensual man, while the other finds it in an intellectual conversationalist.

Intrigue builds as Marie and Marty begin to dream of each other, as if their subconscious is seeking a way out of the labyrinth of their double lives. Each visits a psychoanalyst in an attempt to understand which reality is real and which is merely a figment of the imagination. The boundaries are blurred, and the characters try to find support to determine where they really are. Like quantum particles, both women are connected by an invisible thread that allows them to complement each other and seek answers in the labyrinth of their dreams.

The characters cannot simply wake up, as both lives seem equally real. The film does not offer specific techniques for dream control; instead, it raises important philosophical questions: Is it worth entering a world of illusions to escape from your problems? Where is the line between reality and fiction? And what is more important—external manifestations or internal content? Through the prism of dreams, the film invites us to reflect on what makes our lives real and how we can find a balance between fantasies and reality, between what we want and what we have.

Have you seen the movie? Have you ever experienced a full parallel life in a lucid dream?
