Ines Basic, the star of the reality show Married At First Sight, publicly burst into tears on her Instagram while talking about demons. The young woman had recently experienced a particularly rough night due to sleep paralysis. As the Daily Mail reports, Ines links her experience to the fact of reading a false and offensive comment written about her by an anonymous Internet user the day before.

Soon after her ordeal, she filmed herself crying and making accusations against a stranger who had “hexed” her. She started a series of Instagram stories, filming herself in bed and complaining of sleep paralysis.

As we’ve reported before, sleep paralysis is one of the phase states (which also include lucid dreams, out-of-body experiences, false awakenings, etc) and can indeed be frightening: the sufferer temporarily loses the ability to move and speak while remaining conscious. This happens while the person is falling asleep or just after waking up and is often accompanied by hallucinations.

While this usually goes away within a few minutes or even seconds, it can still be fairly unpleasant. Sometimes there is a feeling of pressure on the chest. Many people in this situation feel that someone is watching them and wants to hurt them.

Similarly, Ines claims that there was a demon in her room. “Has anyone had sleep paralysis before? I’m so scared. I think someone’s put a hex on me or sent me some really dark energy,” she said.

What do you think is the cause of your sleep paralysis, if you have had such an experience?
