Researchers have long been talking about the benefits of lucid dreams (LD) for psychological health. Experiments show that LDs are effective in treating nightmares, post-traumatic stress disorder, and can even mitigate the symptoms of certain mental disorders. Realizing that their surrounding space is not real, the dreamer ceases to be afraid, and can sometimes even alter the scenario. This improves their quality of sleep, reduces daytime stress, and curbs anxiety.

In recent years, the topic of LD has begun to attract more and more attention from neurologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and art therapists. Berenika Maciejewicz, a scientist from the USA, decided to analyze these studies. Interestingly, when considering lucid dreams, she also mentions other phase states—false awakening and sleep paralysis.

As the author adds, lucid dreamers not only solve psychological problems in the LD, they also become more self-confident, socially courageous, and kind in reality, developing leadership qualities and creative abilities, as well as the ability to tackle their daily tasks with enthusiasm.

Nevertheless, considering the possible dangers of the practice, the researcher notes that the potential long-term disadvantages of frequent LD induction have rarely been studied. It is necessary to conduct, for example, a survey of experienced lucid dreamers on the topic of the possible side effects of LD and their negative impact on reality.
