In February, the new British TV series “Behind Her Eyes” was released on Netflix. The series gives the topic of astral travel an unexpected new treatment, based on the bestselling novel by Sarah Pinborough. Not to worry, we won’t give you any spoilers here on the shocking ending. Suffice it to say that the thriller will be of interest to many phase practitioners who like to argue about the reliability of their preferred methods.
The plot of the series is based on two love triangles. Psychiatrist David, married to wealthy heiress Adele, falls in love with his secretary Louise. The women meet by chance, and Adele, unaware of her husband’s romance, decides to help her new friend cope with the nightmares that torment her.
The cure for the bad dreams is found in the diary of a certain “Rob,” who was once in love with Adele. It turns out that Rob was fond of lucid dreams, and Louise, following the diary, begins to discover a new way to control dreams. However, as she becomes more and more immersed in the world of lucid dreaming, Louise understands less and less what is happening in her real life.
One of the main roles in the series was played by Bono’s daughter, Irish actress Eve Hewson (Adele). The actress shared that she suffers from sleep paralysis and nightmares in real life, especially when she is stressed at work. Filming the six-episode thriller helped her cope with her own fears.
In his diary advice on how to induce a lucid dream, Rob writes that you need to pinch yourself once an hour and say: “I am awake,” count your fingers, look at the clock, and imagine the door. According to the creators of the series, the actors did indeed learn these simple reality check techniques and were even successful in inducing lucid dreams.
The authors likewise suggested that there is a very fine line between lucid dreams and astral projection (or out-of-body travel), and sometimes this line can be dangerous. We will not go into details so as not to reveal too much. Instead, we suggest that those who have already watched the series share their impressions here. No spoilers though!
