Anthony Peake is a British writer and radio presenter, researcher of near-death experiences (NDE) and other ambiguously interpreted mental phenomena. His latest theory, which he calls “Cheating the Ferryman,” offers an alternative explanation of the nature of events occurring in the human mind at the time of death.

According to Peake, during the last few seconds of life, we all split into two entities—a “Daemon” and an “Eidolon”—who previously perceived themselves as a single being. The Daemon, suddenly discovering its true nature, realizes that it is responsible for the experience of a past life and begins to review it.

In February 2022, Cheating the Ferryman: The Revolutionary Science of Life After Death, the sequel to Peake’s first bestseller, was released. Bruce Greyson, professor of psychiatry at the University of Virginia and the author of the famous Greyson scale, which is the standard for assessing NDEs, called Peake’s theory an “innovative and provocative argument.” Among other things, Peake explores the causes of near-death and out-of-body experiences, as well as lucid dreams—what we call phase states.

Peake claims to have a scientific approach, which follows from the title of the book. At the same time, his hypothesis tends much more towards parapsychology. He also admits that his views are strongly influenced by the film Groundhog Day.

Anthony Peake’s new book is available on Amazon.
