The coronavirus pandemic has changed our lives, but the emergence of several vaccines in different countries has given many people hope. The safety of these drugs still raises questions, and several possible side effects have been observed. One of these is the impact of the vaccine on the sleep cycle in general and on the rapid eye movement (REM) stage – the stage during which we dream – in particular. This is a reaction of the body’s immune system, as explained by Dr. Dave Hnida, medical editor of CBS Denver.

The expert links the appearance of a number of reports of so-called “vivid dreams” – for example, about space travel, flights to the moon, or conversations with Lincoln – to the administering of the vaccine. According to Deseret News, many people have been posting on social networks that, after receiving the Moderna vaccine injection, they had unusually vivid dreams. One reported dreaming about saving a Belgian city from the Nazis, another visited the Titanic. Intriguingly, these posts received comments from other users who had experienced the same phenomenon. “We really think it has something to do with the immune response. They [such dreams] are temporary,” Dr. Hnida said.
