The role-playing computer game Dreamscaper came out a year ago in beta mode, and is scheduled for a full launch on August 12. The plot centers around the story of a woman named Cassidy who battles her “inner demons” (probably a metaphor for depression). She has the ability to lucid dream (LD), which allows her to fight enemies in the changing landscape of her dreams. During the day, she communicates with ordinary people in the real world.
According to the RPG Site, the project was created by a team from San Francisco, consisting of “three veteran game developers gone rogue.” Thanks to generous sponsors, the team raised over 50 thousand dollars for the game, which allowed them to invest in additional features, such as an in-depth exploration of the heroine’s emotional state.
According to the game description on the official website, each dream is a different dungeon, and the player must unlock the power of dreams to see a new day. Together with Cassidy, the player must battle her surreal nightmares. But there are also beautiful, exciting dreams, and in parallel, the player participates in the protagonist’s daily life. Her conversations with different people in “reality” contributes to the nightly fights against the demons.
A special element of the game is “Lucid Powers” – abilities that help Cassidy control time and space, and influence various elements of the surrounding world, which are, in essence, the skills of lucid dreamers.
Do you think such games can help to develop real abilities for LD?
