In the near future, everyone has the means of accessing the astral plane and actively enjoys all the benefits of out-of-body experience. However, the result is an epidemic of addiction to OBEs and the death of civilization. On its ruins, a few individuals are trying to reverse the situation. Among them are a detective and a social worker who are chasing an elusive killer of a different kind – one who has learned to hunt his prey on the astral plane itself.

With these words, CBR had announced a new comic book series from Antarctic Press entitled O.B.E.: Out of Body Experience by Kerry Valderrama and C.M. Bratton, with Christopher Allen (Spiderman, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Lee Duhig on illustration. So far, there are no plans for a multiseries story: only 4 issues have been announced.

The plot relegates the series to the detective genre, exploring various philosophical theories of humanity, which refuses to obey and tries to survive while existing in two worlds at the same time. As reported in Previews World, the killer’s victims remain physically alive, but otherwise dead: corpses with a beating heart. It is not surprising that in this situation, one of the main characters is terrified of the astral plane, but is forced to go there to get the answers to his questions.

According to the official Facebook page of the project, there are also plans to turn the series into a movie: the authors applied for the ScreenCraft TV Pilot Competition and reached the semifinals. It remains unconfirmed whether we will see O.B.E. on the big screen, but the first issue of the comic goes on sale on April 28.
