The Sydney Festival has been held annually since 1977; it is one of the most anticipated events in the art world. Hundreds musicians, dancers, actors, artists, and theater troupes make the journey in order to participate, including many celebrities and true legends of the cultural landscape.

In January 2023, one of the main attractions of the festival, according to ABC NEWS, was the experiment presented Kelsey Lu, a cellist from the USA who operates at the intersection of visual art, performance, healing activism, and music. The project is called The Lucid: A Dream Portal to Awakening.

The experiment was run in 28 hotel rooms located in Sydney. At night, for eight hours, the guests were immersed in sound with the prospect of falling into a lucid dream. According to the organizers, the experience is a sound journey that flows into a dream state and checks the triggers of lucid dreams.

“My intention with this piece is to cushion the experience that exudes control of time and space, to link both harmony and dissonance between the present world and the frontiers of our consciousness,” adds Lu, the author of the project.

You can imagine what it feels like from a short video on the festival’s website.
