Nancy Drew is a young girl and an amateur detective, although she solves cases no worse than professionals. The character was created almost a century ago and has been subject to a large number of television and film adaptations. At the moment, fans are watching the third season of the latest reiteration of this story.

This week, the characters of the CW series Nancy Drew have vivid nightmares intertwined with reality. The first scene of the new episode is very reminiscent of sleep paralysis: Nancy (Kennedy McMann), who has fallen asleep, sees the dark figure of a demon, following which she immediately wakes up. It then comes to light that the local children have all been drawing images of this very same demon, and very soon other members of Nancy’s team begin to see it.

At the same time, a strange sleepwalking epidemic hits the town: the local residents dream while walking, with their dreams reflecting their personal fears, which drive them to try to kill themselves. The dreams become increasingly mixed up with the real world: the characters realize that dying in a dream will kill them in reality. Let’s remember that Nancy Drew is a detective-mystery series that includes elements of magic and fantasy.

Luckily, Bess (Maddison Jaizani) ends up saving the day: while the others are sleeping, experiencing life-threatening nightmares, she purposefully enters a lucid dream and gathers her friends on a bus. No seat belts? She creates them with the power of thought. No time to steer? The bus can move on its own, at the young woman’s will. No wonder Bess is later dubbed the queen of dreams: this is her world, which she completely controls.

Spoiler: Bess’s abilities, of course, lead to success. After all, this is her dream, and nothing prevents her from destroying the demon. But how exactly the decisive battle takes place, you can find out for yourself by watching the fourth episode of the third season.

The series is available on the CW.
