Russian researchers have developed a neuro-headset that allows you to record and recreate your own dreams. This was reported by the press service of the National Technology Initiative (NTI). The project “Assistive Neurotechnologies” began work in 2017, and experiments on reproducing images from the brain have been conducted since 2019.

The main goal of the research is to rehabilitate people after a stroke. According to Vladimir Konyshev, head of the Neurorobotics Lab at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), existing technologies are able to capture only the general mood of sleep: joy, calm, excitement, fear, etc. A full, detailed re-creation of dreams is currently impossible.

According to RT, based on reports from the NTI press service, the participants of the experiments were shown videos on various topics: people’s faces, racing, waterfalls, and so on, while their electroencephalogram (EEG) data were being recorded. It turned out that videos of the same category entailed similar indicators of wave activity. In the second stage, the subjects were shown new images on similar topics, and the system tried to determine the category of the video. The accuracy of the results was 90%.

According to scientists, it will be possible to record and reproduce dreams in the next five years.
