Kali Uchis is a Colombian-American singer-songwriter, best known for her hit “Telepatia,” which went viral on TikTok and reached #3 on the Spotify Chart.
In an interview with Office Magazine, the 26-year-old star shared her plans for the future and several stories from her life, including her experience of sleep paralysis. The young woman recounted that she often has vivid dreams, where there is a feeling of complete certainty that everything that is happening around her is real. As a child, she was constantly experiencing nightmares; later they stopped, but have resumed since the pandemic began.
The singer first experienced sleep paralysis a week ago. She woke up and could not move while feeling a presence in the room. Then an unknown person came up behind her, put a blade to her ankle and stuck it in. “I was awake when it was happening. So, I was terrified,” Kali said. However, she still doubts whether it was sleep paralysis: she is confused by the stories of more experienced friends who claim that this usually happens when you sleep on your back, and she woke up lying on her side.
In some ways, this story was a continuation of the singer’s nightmares: she often dreamed that someone was chasing her, wanting to kill her. However, this time the situation was unusual: “I always wake up when I die,” she explains, in confirmation of the unusual nature of this recent dream.
We should add that sleep paralysis is one of the phase states which also include lucid dreams, out-of-body experiences, and false awakenings.
