Insidious: The Red Door is an American horror film, the fifth installment in the series and the third chapter in the story chronologically (the third and fourth films were prequels). The events take place ten years after the first two films. To give a brief recap of the franchise, a family moves into a new home where one of the children supposedly falls into a coma (according to doctors), but in reality, he enters the astral plane, which the father subsequently enters to save his son.
The parents are aided by the medium and psychic Elise Rainier, played by Lin Shaye. She remains a main characters throughout all five films. However, in an interview with the YouTube channel Dread Central, Lin shared her own experiences of unusual encounters.
Interestingly, when asked about lucid dreams, the actress describes an out-of-body experience, thereby making the connection between two different phases states. According to Lin, this happened to her once when she was around ten or eleven years old, in her childhood home. She recalls hovering over her own body in the bedroom. However, it was neither scary nor joyful; it was simply a fact that about which she can now say “Wow!”
Memories also surfaced when asked about ghosts. Once, Shayesaw a woman sitting on her bed, with her back turned. Everything felt very real, as in waking life. It is worth noting that similar stories about ghosts, aliens, or demons often accompany another phase state—sleep paralysis.
As Lin shared, she sometimes records her dreams and would like to know more about them, but they vanish all too quickly.
The fifth film premiered on July 7, 2023.
