Athlete training in lucid dreams has piqued researchers’ interest numerous times. However, a group of scientists from ten different countries, led by Heba Taher, has now set out to explore how lucid dreams can be utilized to educate surgeons. After all, like athletes, surgeons need a clear mental image of procedures and must practice their skills and make precise movements.

The authors evaluated twenty successful surgeons using the lucid dream scale. The results showed that the participants received significantly higher ratings than individuals from other professions on factors such as control, memory, dissociation, and negative emotions. Surgery demands mental preparation for precise adjustments before an operation. Such preparation can be achieved through visualization, virtual reality, and lucid dreams. Many respondents added that before a complex surgery, they study all the details in their dreams.

Researchers suggest that lucidity in dreams promotes sports activities (particularly those aimed at developing the vestibular system) and meditation, as well as smoking (since nicotine cravings tend to wake smokers up in the middle of the night). Predictably, almost all surveyed medical professionals engaged in sports, and every fourth person practiced meditation.

Would you choose to be treated by a surgeon who transferred part of their training into lucid dreams?
