Last week, a filmmaker and Flinders University (Australia) lecturer, Tom Young, has started working on the feature film Lucid Dreaming. According to IF magazine, the idea of the script arose at the beginning of this year, and Young has given himself exactly 100 days to shoot the film, considering this a “nice, round number” and a feasible challenge.

The protagonist, Macy, is trying to cope with trauma with the help of self-reflection and keeping a dream diary. As a result, she discovers the ability to lucid dream (LD). Soon she realizes that the LD world helps her unlock the potential of her mind by accelerating learning and developing internal awareness.

Young is probably a lucid dreamer himself, because, as he claims, “he has always kind of modelled what he knows and put it into practice.” However, this is also academic work within the framework of his university course about creative arts in screen, and for his students, the filming process will constitute an internship.

The project budget is $25,000. The story will only be shown at the university and on YouTube. The director also plans to document the filming process, so we can expect a “film about the film” at the same time.

The premiere on YouTube should take place on November 23.

What idea for an LD-themed movie would you suggest?
