After a near-death experience (NDE), a person often changes, becoming more spiritual and acquiring new goals. But does this affect their quality of life? A recent study conducted by scientists from Belgium, led by Anne-Françoise Rousseau, revealed that contrary to expectations, the fates of patients did not significantly transform one year after an NDE.
NDEs transform individuals but can be associated with anxious emotions. People may change internally without experiencing substantial changes in their life satisfaction. However, the authors emphasize the small number of patients whose stories were studied, totaling 126 individuals.
American researcher Bruce Greyson, who consistently explores NDE-related topics, continued this discussion by sending a letter to the same scientific journal’s editorial board. He noted that previous studies arrived at similar conclusions. It is possible that during their “journeys,” individuals witnessed such an ideal world that their ordinary earthly existence now clearly falls short. This leads to a decrease in self-esteem.
Therefore, NDEs are unlikely to actually impact one’s quality of life. While the Belgian scientists acknowledge the limitation of their small sample size, Greyson considers it sufficient to yield well-founded results.
Has your life changed after encountering a phase state (e.g., lucid dreams, sleep paralysis, NDEs)?
