Women vs. Men: Who Finds Lucid Dreaming Easier? – Phase Today – Lucid Dreaming and Sleep Paralysis News

Women and men share many similarities and differences, but are their abilities regarding lucid dreaming the same? While scientists have already found such differences, no one has studied how they reflect on the deliberate practice of lucid dreaming. Researchers from REMspace, Michael Raduga, Andrey Shashkov, and Zhanna Zhunusova decided to investigate this nuance.

The authors surveyed 290 practitioners and analyzed data from 16 previous experiments comprising over 2000 reports. The results show that women have a pronounced inclination toward lucid dreaming:

– They are capable of becoming lucid in a dream 50% more often than men within a week.
– They are successful at inducing lucid dreams using the direct method (upon falling asleep) 50% more often than men.
– They more frequently claim that they can intentionally become lucid in a dream within three days.
– The majority achieve success in half of their attempts.
– They less often awaken unintentionally in the middle of a lucid dream.

It can confidently be stated that gender matters for a lucid dreamer’s success. The authors suggest that this gender difference is linked to natural psychophysiological differences. However, this does not mean that men cannot experience lucid dreams. Many of them practice daily and successfully achieve their goals in lucid dreams. Yet, why this innate ability exists more easily in women’s brains remains to be discovered.

Why do you think women find lucid dreaming easier than men?

The article was published in October 2023 in the International Journal of Dream Research.
