Howard Grimes is an American drummer, best known as a member of the Hi Rhythm Section, one of the greatest house bands of all time, according to the portal Commercial Appeal. According to the musician, he has always asked God to make him exactly who he is – a drummer.

In the early 80s, after the sale of Hi Records, Grimes got into a series of professional and personal problems that eventually left him divorced, homeless, and even facing the possibility of death. According to Howard, it was then that God spoke to him, giving him a second chance.

“I was dying and I had this out-of-body experience,” Grimes recalls. “I got up and I was in a dark cave and I saw a light through this tunnel. And I heard a voice say, ‘Walk to the light.’ It was so bright I couldn’t see. When I got all the way down, I saw this figure standing with a white robe and he had his arms out. I couldn’t see his face. It was like the sun giving a light out. But I walked up into his arms. He said, ‘You have obeyed me well. I am sending you back.’”

Let us add that near-death and out-of-body experiences are phase states, which also include lucid dreams, sleep paralysis, etc. In one of the Phase Research Center’s studies, a group of phase practitioners deliberately reproduced one of the classic scenarios often reported in cases of clinical death – a flight through a tunnel. It is possible to create any other scenario during a phase state, for example, communication with God.

Grimes published other interesting stories from his life in and out of the music business in his memoir Timekeeper: My Life in Rhythm (co-authored with Preston Lauterbach). The book was released in July 2021 and is available on Amazon.
